Fresh Baked Bread Banner

Dietary Department:

The dietary department is responsible for providing meals for the residents, acute patients, and staff in our facility. We also serve meals for the Senior Center twice a week. Our department is averaging over 100 meals served daily! We even make our own fresh baked breads on every Wednesday.

Dietary Manager - Sharon Boneck:

Sharon started working for Surprise Valley Hospital in January of 1990. She worked as a cook for 2 years before becoming the dietary manager in 1992. There have been many changes to the dietary department since that time. When the new addition was added to the hospital, the dietary department was also expanded. A new pantry and a new walk in refrigerator and deep freeze were added. Before this time, the kitchen staff had to go outside across the parking lot to retrieve canned items from the outside storage. In addition, the kitchen got a great face-lift with the addition of a new tile floor.

In 2009, the kitchen received grant money from the McConnell Foundation for several much needed new pieces of equipment including a steam table, an upright freezer, and a new commercial stove.

In 2010, the hospital auxilliary provided the kitchen with some additional needed items including a new commercial blender and food processor.

Registered Dietician - Kristen Knuf

Kristen Knuf is our registered Dietician. She drives all the way up from Reno to check on our residents and make recommendations for their diets. We are extremely lucky to have such a caring and knowledgeable dietician that is willing to come to our community. Kristen is also available for diet consults by appointment.
